Why is the Christian story so engaging, delightful and transformative? The Christian story has within it the movement of the best of stories. The best stories are like the best flat panel TVs. They have the sharpest movement, the truest blacks, and the brightest most vivid colors. The Christian story has all of those thing. It has the drama an ancient paradise, lost and nearly forgotten. There are many episodes when that paradise seems nearly regained, remembered or partially tasted. Then in Jesus that hope comes rushing in full force and multitudes are swept up in the enthusiasm. Then it is all suddenly dashed, lost, crucified and despair seemed to have won once more. On the third day an inkling the likes of which made all previous inklings look dim explodes and the world is changed. The unfolding of that change has within it all of the drama of the meta-story, down to the individual. It’s like the Chesterton paraphrase. Everybody wants two things: security and adventure. Only in Christianity do you get both.
