   I think the other gateway drug (maybe the work together?) is the turn to Natural Law. Reformed thinking has either been Nominalist in its Westminister/Dortian configurations, or else Kuyperian. The difficulty that Leithart alludes to is our quest for certainty, for a Scripture/Tradition that tells us we have a place. So Natural Law steps in on those contentious social issues, bringing more robust answers. That in turn validates Roman thinking of a sort. The next step about authority and Tradition is easy. Take out the Natural Law step, and you easily jump to the Eastern church as we can see.
