Found an interesting thing in the American Values survey on unbelief.

One of the interesting findings in the religious beliefs over time was the jump in the “no” answers to “Do you believe in God?” question.

• 1944: 96% yes, 1% no
• 1967:  98% yes, 1% no
• 2012:  89% yes, 11% no

A closer look at the data susses out the skew. In age: 18-29 year olds only 81% say “yes”, 19% say “no”. All other age groups are over 90% “yes”. 18-29 year olds 19% say “no”.

Southerners are more likely to believe than the other areas of the country. Republicans are more likely to believe than Democrats. Independents are the least likely to believe in God.
