Complementarian Women Complicate the Conventional Conversation

The Caricature

Complementarians are men don’t want to share power and have with docile, quiet, compliant wives. Egalitarians are loud women with compliant, hip, spineless husbands (that would be me I guess).

Hello Internet

Just having read a couple of very well written, sharply argued articles by complementarian women (Can breadwinning Wives Be Happy and Sarah Flashing’s review of Rachel Held Evan’s latest book) can really upset the caricature.

How does it change the conversation when complementarian men shut up (egalitarian men have been accustomed to shutting up and sitting down once institutional access concerns were addressed) and complementarian women argue passionately, articulately and forcefully?

Applauding the Awkward Victory

So if complementarian women are speaking in church, posting high visibility blog posts, and  moving the conversation, who won?

Maybe we should just simply applaud the grace of Christ in giving his church such gifted women and continue to receive what they have to offer as we continue to work through and explore the mysteries of human sexual polarity.
