The Hiding Place

Ever since I got an Audible account I’ve been ingesting audio books. For some reason I’ve done a number of them about WWII prison camps. I used Elie Wiesel’s “Night” in a couple of sermons. The best by far IMHO, however, is Corrie Ten Boom’s “The Hiding Place”. While many of the other books wallow in the misery which is of course fair and reasonable, Corrie and Betsy transform even Ravensbruck into a place where God’s glory can be seen. The book is devastating, as are the oth…er books, but also glorious.

One might ask Betsy, Corrie’s sister “what gives you the right to forgive your enemies, praise God for all things, conduct worship services in a barracks of dying women, dare to imagine the vitamin bottle shared promiscuously miraculously continues to produce for the dying women?!”

It’s not rights, it’s glory.

If you haven’t read the book, I heartily recommend it. Most of the book (unlike many others) is not simply about the camps, but rather a story about how God makes ordinary people extra-ordinary in extra-ordinarily bad circumstance.

The kindle version is cheap. If you buy the Kingle version you can get the audio version for another $4. You can find the book in many churches and libraries and probably almost free used. If you’ve read it a long time ago, read it again. It is fresh and new and encouraging and empowering. http://www.amazon.com/Hiding-Place-Corrie-Ten-Boom-ebook/dp/B004TS1MGK/
