HT Eric Dirksen told me about this conversation. I remember as a seminarian reading Kuyper’s Stone Lectures for the first time feeling very uncomfortable about what he was saying as I saw it in light of my upbringing in the 60s and 70s in racially charged Paterson. Kuyper is of course hot in my Dutch CRC tribe. Some of the last books that were pried from my grandfather’s hands were Kuyper and Bavinck in Dutch. At the same time its tough to find intellectual elites who came to power between Darwin and Hitler who weren’t filled with racist, eugenicist “modern” assumptions that would only thoroughly discredited and laid to rest by the horrors of Nazi ideology. We’ll see where the conversation goes.
