Salon: Transgender experience isn’t caused by a hormone imbalance so just give it up already

This is a very interesting article. The author is upset by scientists researching the roots of gender dysphoria. The assertion by the author is “gender dysphoria isn’t physiological” Does it come from anywhere?

To say it has no biological or psychological source would be a dramatic statement. Does gender have no biological root? Does gender have to psychological root? Or is what we have here “sacred space” where scientists dare not investigate. It sounds strangely familiar to certain fundamentalist camps.

If you are a materialist you’d say that ALL of ourselves are a product of biology, psychology, sociology, history, etc. So is she trying to make a religious claim? Do we have a sort of gender “god of the gaps” happening here?
