Interesting thoughts, Paul. One could also parse what it means to be a “Spirit-led Christian” or any one of a number of Christianese slang phrases.
Over at GetReligion, they sometimes talk about the “ghost” in the story. One ghost would be the continuing Reformed tendency to want to define itself over against the larger evangelical subculture. Another might be our historical head/heart problems and how the phrase “personal relationship” activates that.
