I often ponder Sauron’s ring in Tolkien’s LOTR. In some ways Facebook and other social media are like that ring. You would imagine that a being as powerful as Sauron before which even the mighty of Middle Earth feared to stand against felt the need to pour himself into a thing as simple and symbolic as a ring. Consider the ways rings signify in our world and Middle Earth. What’s interesting about that ring was how invisibility was a mere side-effect. If compared with the glove of Thanos in the recent Infinity Wars it seem feeble yet its power was in identity.
We might ponder the horcrux in the Harry Potter universe.
We are playing with things we don’t or perhaps can’t understand.
