One more thing Deb doesn’t yet explore: the sacramentality of sex. This is what Paul so startlingly proclaims in Ephesians 5: This is about Christ and his church. Sex, which in itself can have such a Yuck factor (think of what many kids think when they first learn what happens in a sexual encounter). The spiritual and and physical are so united in creation that the physicality of sex can embody the persons relationship with Christ. Now this is often used to outlaw homosexual sex, sometime precisely because of the yuck effect. Williams point is that all truly good sexual relationships have this deeper meaning. The joy of physical giving and receiving. And for Christians the gift of covenant bond which gives this time and space to evolve.
