Was forgiveness key to the rise of Western Democracy?

A dividing line that is emerging from the Critical Theory conversation is their inability to forgive or redeem. That function is key in the sort of constitutional system we now possess. Sins can be paid for. The future can go on without demanding bloody reprisals or banishing sinners.
