    The comments were interesting because of one of our friends. Part of this may be from the collapse of the center, that we have spent a generation purifying the Evangelical church (albeit this is more political than theological). Another contributor may be the preaching, by that meaning the focus on biblical exposition, an approach that simply pushes you up against these issues. The older narrative styles, more “pietistic” in tone allow the preacher to walk around or reinterpret themes in a more contemporary way.

    FWIW, I had to deal with many of these issues thirty years ago, at the point where I realized that “pro” or ordained religion was not to be my calling. Lots of things flowed from that.
