   I honestly do feel sorry for folks like Keller, Piper, etc who think that God has told them they must block women from this or that. What a burden to feel responsible for making sure the “keep out” signs are posted in all of the right places. I suspect it is not easy in 2015 to be a man who thinks that God called him to preach and that he did not call women to do the same. I’m guessing it weighs on them at least a little bit to be in rooms where decisions are made and to block those doors, or at least the votes, from women. It must be troubling for them to ask “What would Jesus do?” and have to give an answer that looks nothing like anything resembling the Jesus of the Scriptures.

   It is sad to see otherwise seemingly intelligent and caring people think that they are called to block others of various demographics, whether based on gender, race, or eye color. They are not just blocking people who believe differently than they, they are blocking image-bearers of God based on demographics. They seem to think that in Christ there are “male” and “female,” two very distinct groups that they are called to treat very differently. They are certainly not treating people like me as they would want to be treated.

   I am guessing, or at least hoping, that they doubt themselves on this, perhaps prompting them to dig their heels in further. If I try to muster up thinking like this where I would block men from the decision-making in an organization in which both men and women are members, I “feel like” it would be so unbelievably arrogant. It must be difficult to walk around with that sort of macho thinking and corresponding responsibility to block the doors. These guys are carrying around such a burden, that I would like to do something to help them out. Perhaps I could serve them some coffee and cookies. Smiles.
