Wow? This article reminds me of an old saying: “Why do gay men usually have sex on their first date? Because there’s no one there to say no.”

I think with this piece you have to consider the source. “The Federalist” is an over-eager missionary and as usual their agenda is in big neon lights. Why do I still read it and occasionally cite it? Because I also read Salon and other bright neon sites. You can find truth in many places, nearly everywhere in fact.

Having said that your observation I think is important, as is the article. Men are men. Stereotypes never tell the whole story, but like The Federalist or Salon they often tell some of it.

There are many same sex couples in Sacramento. I’ve noticed, however, the relative percentage of lesbian couples who start families compared to male gay couples. I’d love to see more survey work on it. WAY more lesbian couples start families it appears to me. Men are men. I have a better idea about men of course because I am one.

Thanks for your comment Rob and your continued reading.

I’ve lived openly gay for the past forty years, in one of the largest pro-gay cities on the continent, Toronto. All the gay people I know or have known are as diverse as the straight people I have known. The idea that the bar/pick-up scene represents ‘gay culture’ and that any discussion of the lives of gay people is going to be meaningful when you confine your discussion to this promiscuous sub group is completely ludicrous. As much so as if he was discussing the morality and mindset of ‘straight culture’ and confining his discussion to the same sub-group of people. Complete nonsense and fodder for bigots only. If anyone thinks that this article will somehow equip them to get to know and understand gay people they might come in contact with they have to be crazy.
